Kathryn Filevich - Novice Jazz Tech

Kathryn is a dancer born, raised and trained in Edmonton, Alberta. Starting at the age of 3 Kathryn immediately fell in love and hasn’t stopped since. Starting at the Edmonton School of Ballet she trained in ballet (RAD and Cecchetti based) , jazz and tap (Al Gilbert) as well as Ukrainian dance with the Shumka School of Dance. She later moved to Dance Alberta where she expanded her knowledge and added lyrical, contemporary and musical theatre to her training. Kathryn has also had the amazing opportunity to train for a week in London England at Pineapple dance studios and Trinity Laban Conservatory for Music and Dance. 

Kathryn has been teaching dance for seven years in all genres and will all levels and is taking her love of teaching into the classroom as she works on her Elementary Education degree.

Kieran is a 20 year old dancer and choreographer from Spruce Grove, Alberta. He trained with Shelley Tookey at Shelley’s Dance Company in Edmonton, Alberta studying Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Musical Theater and Hip-Hop. He attended Victoria School of the Arts where he graduated with his International Baccalaureate in dance. Kieran has performed with Festival Players as Mr. Mistoffelees in CATS, Charlie Bates in Oliver and the Rabbi in Fiddler on the Roof. He has performed with Alessia Cara (Juno Awards), Shawn Hook (WE Day) and at the Capezio ACE Awards in Long Beach, California. He is a member of Sarah Dolan’s O2 Dance Company and has auditioned for the FOX TV show, So You Think You Can Dance in Los Angeles. Kieran has trained under Dana Foglia at her 6 week intensive program and worked with Andrew Winghart on videos such as “Moment of Truth”. Kieran has been an assistant to Stacey Tookey, Kathryn McCormick, Jason Parsons, Ray Leeper, Sean Cheesman, Sarah Dolan, Shelley Tookey, Lukas McFarlane and Cody Green.

Randall Mella - Inter/Advanced Hip Hop

Randall is a hiphop dancer born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He began dancing at the age of 4 with the Philippine Barangay Performing Arts Society where he learned traditional filipino dancing as well as hiphop. With a growing love for hiphop, Randall moved his training to the Kore Dance Studio, where he eventually continued on to compete with NXG Company at Artists Emerge, World of Dance, Hip Hop International. Randall has performed at numerous events and benefit shows such as Little Hearts Big Dreams, Stand Up for Love, and Its Showtime Edmonton to name a few. He has learned from many different choreographers over the years: Carlo Atienza, Alexander Chung, Jerome Esplana, Chris Martin, Mariel Martin, Keone Madrid, Andye J, Larry “Ruin” Combs, and the list goes on. Learning from so many different teachers with different styles helps him to stay inspired and to add new movement to his own choreography. Randall dedicates himself to helping his students grow in new skills, knowledge, and confidence, all while having fun in the process. He is actively directing Cool Giraffes towards their upcoming competition run at Hip Hop International 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Thomas Boivin - Beginner/Novice Hip Hop

Thomas Boivin started his dance life at a very young age. When he was three his parents put him into recreational tap classes and then at the age of six into hip hop classes. Thomas instantly fell in love with the art of dance because it was a fun and easy way to express him self.

Thomas has had many opportunities to teach along side some of Edmonton’s greatest choreographers in both the genre of tap and hip-hop. He is also one of the newest faculty members at The Dance Place in Spruce Grove.

Thomas Boivin has worked with many great choreographers and dance icons such as Barbara Vargas, Danny Neilsen, Jenna Werhun, Alexander Chung, Sarah Reich, and Josh Capulong to name a few. Thomas currently teaches hip Hop classes at The Dance Place and also assists the other hip-hop instructor Raymond Bulatao with his classes along side Patricia Perez. He frequently performs around Edmonton at different shows, festivals, and fun events that are held throughout the year. Thomas still frequently attends many dance workshops and conventions to stay current with all styles of tap and hip hop. Throughout his dance career he has received many titles, scholarships, and awards for his craft. Most recently he won the title of Mr. Teen Candance in Calgary AB. At the end of the 2014/2015-dance season, Thomas was accepted into an internationally known professional hip-hop group called NXG Company (1st Place WOD LA 2015, 2nd Place Pegcity Movement 2015), and also won the Varsity All Star Category at Artist’s Emerge 2016 with the Semi-Professional group called Spirit Boys. Ever since then he has been training and performing with them all over North America. He is also apart of a semi professional group called Bathtubbs (Edrick Ochoco, Emily Tubbs-Way) and is apart of The Next Steps Program (Jenna Werhun). He seeks to improve not only himself but encourages everyone else to grow and learn along side him.

Thomas continues to take regular classes at The Dance Place and The Kore Dance Studio. He has performed in many shows for Feats Festival (Albert Dance Alliance), Hip Hop For Hope 2015, Stars Of Hope, Stand Up For Love, 2012 Alberta Winter Games Opening Ceremony, For Kids By Kids, Building Dreams, and many more to come in the future.

Carlo Reyes - Advanced Hip Hop

Carlo’s style can be described as eclectic, joining elements and influence from hip-hop, animation, funk styles, contemporary, jazz and anything else from which he finds inspiration. He puts a strong emphasis on control and subtlety coupled with insight focusing on clean, purposeful movement. Dancers/choreographers that have greatly influenced his style include Ivan Koumaev (SYTYCD/Justin Timberlake: 20/20 Tour), Tony Tran (KM Legacy/Jabbawockeez/Kinjaz), Pat Cruz (Gen2/The Company/Kinjaz), Shaun Evaristo (Gen2/The Company/Movement Lifestyle) and Jillian Meyers (SYTYCD/Janet Jackson: Rock Withchu Tour). Over the last few years he has trained with Alexander Chung, Carlo Atienza, The Shadow Twins, Scott Forsyth, Jerome Esplana, and currently dances with local all-styles crew, The Business.

Meagan Cameron- Inter/Adv Street Jazz

Meagan started dancing at the age of three, and has trained in a variety of styles, such as: Jazz (both Technical and Funk/Street), Lyrical, Ballet (RAD and ISTD), Contemporary, Modern, Hip Hop, Irish, Tap, Heels, and more!  She has competed all across Western Canada, winning top titles and scholarships in many competitions for both her dancing and choreography.  Immediately after graduating high school she moved to Calgary to further her training at a University level.

She has trained with many inspiring and well known dancers and choreographers including: Megan Lawson, Luther Brown (from So You Think You Can Dance), Christopher “Lil C” Toler (So You Think You Can Dance), Colt Prattes, Yanis Marshall, Brinn Nicole, Jojo Gomez, Galen Hooks and many more!  

Meagan has received her Level I and II Dance Teaching Certification from Dance Teacher University out of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she took courses in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, Early Childhood/Child Development, Injury Prevention, Nutrition and more! Most recently she took classes at Broadway Dance Center in New York, and just came back from a 4-day intensive with Galen Hooks in LA.

She is now dancing with Rhythm FX and has danced on stage at Chasing Summer Music Festival with many world renown DJs. She has also started her own dance company called Heel Stylez Dance Company! She puts on workshops and events, primarily in the style of Heels, but offers all styles of dance. 

Meagan teaches all over Edmonton and the surrounding area, and is excited to be coming to Overdrive Dance Force!

Versatile dancer and educator, Barbara Vargas's wide variety of performance experience locally and internationally allows her to jump into many different types of projects, from playing Rhoda in the Musical White Christmas, to a Tap Dance percussionist in the Mary Lee Bird Band and Generations. She was a leader in the Edmonton community for years, as co-founder of Breaking Barres, a company dedicated to creating a tap community in Edmonton, before embarking on a journey to Vancouver. While in Vancouver Barbara attended Vancouver Community College's contemporary music diploma program, using her tap shoes as her major instrument. She also held various positions of leadership at the Vancouver Tap Dance Society, was an Artist in Resident with the Vancouver Public School Board, and traveled across BC with ReachOut Psychosis. She is excited to be back in Edmonton to share, learn, and grow with her people
